My Growing Belly

Since my belly is rapidly growing, I have a couple funny stories from my kids from the past couple weeks.  (These are probably funnier to me than they will be for you or be one of those "you have to be there" moments.)

Whenever we line up to go somewhere, I have a boy line and a girl line.  The kids line up right in front of the door and it is a pretty tight space.  As I was making my way towards the door in between the lines, I misjudged my size and bonked a boy on the head with my little tummy.  His head just kind of bounced off my tummy.  I laughed and apologized.  He said, "it's ok, it was soft."  Thanks.

Today, I had another funny moment at the same place.  Once again, I was trying to make my way to the door.  I knew that I couldn't fit, so I asked the kids to scoot over because "I am not as skinny as I used to be."  When I said that, one of my little boys said, "well, why don't you just take your baby out of your tummy?"  It made me laugh for a couple reasons.  First, because he came up with a solution to my problem of being fat.  Second, because he thinks I can just take the baby out of my tummy.

My kids are really growing on me and starting to make me laugh.

(per request of mi madre and Doreen, I MAY post a picture sometime soon.)

Nightstand

So, I often hear about the constant bathroom breaks for pregnant women. Unfortunately it is true for me as well. Some nights are better than others. Last night was not as good. I blamed it on pregnancy until I looked at my nightstand....5 water bottles, 1 Dr Pepper and one mug of hot chocolate.
No wonder I was up so often. Any normal person would be.

To Cut or Not to Cut

I am getting my hair done on Tuesday and I need some help.  I have been thinking about getting my hair cut for a while now.  I think I am starting to get headaches because my hair is so heavy since it is so long.  It is also such a hassle to do everyday and ends up in a ponytail most days.  I am just a little hesitant because it has been a long time since I have had my hair short.  So, do you think I should cut it now, or wait till after the baby is born?

This is the cut I am thinking.  What do you think?
This makes me want to cut my hair!

Just a Smile

I just have to take a moment to celebrate the little things.

This year, I have a pretty tough class. Only 3 of them went to preschool so I had to start from the basics of teaching them the school routine.  They are still learning how to raise their hands, share and stand in line.  Only half of them know more than 5 letters.  It has been a struggle for me, but we are learning together.

Since many of them have never been away from home that long before, I have had to deal with many crying little girls.  One will start and then the others join in.  I know that they just miss their mom, but sometimes I just feel like they hate my class/me.

Yesterday as the kids were leaving, one of the little girls gave me a big hug and started skipping away to her bus.  She stopped, turned around, and with a big smile said, "bye Mrs. Barlow, see you tomorrow!"

It seriously made my day.  It made me realize that she actually likes school and she likes me.  It put a big smile on my face and made everything worth it!

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

The Good:

I am almost through my first trimester and I am feeling a lot better.  I haven't thrown up in probably 2 weeks!  Yay!

The Bad:

I am already sleep deprived due to the number of bathroom breaks in the middle of the night.

The Ugly:

I discovered my first stretch mark this evening.  Ahhhh!!  I am not even 12 weeks!

Labor Day

I had an amazing Labor Day weekend!!  Isn't it funny how it is called Labor Day and we get the day off work to play?  I don't mind though!

We started off the weekend with some friends coming over for dinner.  Travis and I have found a really good Mongolian Beef and Lettuce Wrap recipe that we love so we wanted to share.  I also have to practice because my dad said he would come visit if I could make both.  I have learned how, so now I need to prepare for him to come!  (Just FYI-he would come visit even if I didn't make PF Changs.  He has visited several times already.)

After dinner, we played Quelf.  My little brother got it for me for Christmas, but this was the first time we have ever played it.  It was HILARIOUS!!!  It is hard to explain on here and it is really one of those times that you had to be there for it to be funny to you.  Seriously, I was laughing so hard that I was crying.  It is kind of like Cranium.  You move your piece around the board and draw different cards; there are different categories to choose from.  I can't wait to play again!

This is a picture of Alison's husband while playing Quelf.  I will get the other pictures off of Travis' phone when he get home.  Seriously, it was so funny!
Saturday, Travis got up early to play golf with the guys and I slept in...sort of.  Sleeping in these days is waking up after 6:30.  Saturday I was up at 7.  Bummer.  Honestly, I don't remember what I did on Saturday morning.  I know that mid morning I cleaned and did some lesson plans, but I forget the rest.  Travis and I then went shopping to get some new pants.  I am at a weird stage right now because my pants are too tight in my waist, but the legs are ok.  Maternity pants just look ridiculous on me.  Not a single pair fit.  I loved the waist, but the legs and rear were poofy and everything was too short!  I am in between normal pants and maternity and it is not fun.  (I had my first emotional breakdown about my body this weekend.  I am proud for lasting this long!)

I already made a post about Sunday, so I will move right along to Monday.  Get ready to be impressed...I got up and went to the gym!  This was the first time I have been since I got my job.  Really it had only been 2 weeks, but it felt like forever since I had last gone.  With all my body changes and not being in a while, I got winded pretty quickly.  I ran for 30 minutes and then did some abs with Leisy.  At home I did some arms (I bought weights and have been trying to use them everyday).  By that evening, I could already feel the effects of running.  I seriously felt like an old woman whenever I tried to stand up or walk.  Today is much better but my abs are a little sore.  It felt great to get back to the gym.  I am going to try to go to the evening classes now.  I just need to find some motivation after work!

Monday afternoon, Travis and I went to buy a bed for our spare bedroom.  We found a really great deal!  Travis even gave in and let me buy a pumpkin decoration for the fall.  I am pretty much in love with it and already have it sitting on my fireplace even though it isn't fall.  For some reason I am super excited about Halloween this year (I was last year too, now that I think about it).

In case you can't tell, it is covered in gold glitter!  There are also white lights inside the pumpkin for you to plug in!

After getting home, we headed over to the Miller's house.  They had a small, last minute get together.  I really miss seeing my friends everyday at the gym or playgroups so this was a lot of fun!  Unfortunately I did not get any pictures.

It was a great weekend and I am already looking forward to our next break!

I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it!

Today has been the most relaxing Sunday ever!  I attribute it to the fact that I studied about keeping the Sabbath day holy AND there is no school tomorrow!

This morning, I taught the young women a lesson on keeping the Sabbath Day holy.  It was a lesson that I really needed to be reminded of.  I read a ton of great talks on the subject and actually learned a lot.  With it being just me and Travis, it is easy to forget to set the day aside.  A lot of times we do our own thing and really treat it just like another day of the week.  Today has been different.  I have made a special effort to do "sabbath appropriate activities."  We have been listening to Sunday music and it is so relaxing.  Listening to music also helps us avoid turning on the tv for background noise.  I love not having the tv on!  I, of course, took a short nap and have been indexing (family history work).  It really does make a huge difference in how Sunday feels just by making a small effort.

I have to admit, not having school tomorrow lightens my mood.  I am sooo excited!  I am not thinking about what I am going to do with my crazy little kiddos or what I am going to teach them.  School is the last thing on my mind right now...besides the fact that I don't have to go tomorrow!!!!!  I know we have only had one full week of school, but this is a much needed break!  The first week is the toughest in my opinion because most of these kids have never been in a formal setting and it takes a lot of energy to keep them focused and on task.   I can't wait to spend the day with Travis doing whatever our hearts desire (besides all morning when he is golfing with "the guys")!
