1 Transfer

As a missionary, you do everything by transfer, or 6 weeks.  You track how many transfers you have been out, how many transfers you have left, how many transfers you have been in an area and how many transfers you have been with a certain companion.  Each transfer you make goals, set things to work on, and focus on certain people and things.  There was a saying that you could do anything for a transfer.  It was only a short amount of time.

As of today, I only have one transfer left until I have a baby if not less.  That is not long at all!  If I recall correctly, the last transfer of my mission was the fastest.  It seemed like I couldn't get in everything that I wanted to.

With that being said, the stress of getting everything done has really hit.  I am not so stressed about the baby as I am about life.  I am definitely a planner and you can't plan the arrival of a baby.  She may come early, she may come late or she may be exactly on time.

I officially have a long term sub lined up for when I am on maternity leave.  That is probably my biggest stress right now.  I am really excited about the sub, but how am I supposed to plan 8 weeks worth of teaching now?  Everything is based on the students and how much they are understanding.  Besides being a planner, I am also an organizer.  How do I organize 8 weeks worth of material?  And when will that time start?  I need to plan the next six weeks so that I can prepare plans for the following 6 weeks.  That is a long time!

I have started reading birthing and child raising articles and books now instead of pregnancy ones.  I just don't think anything can really prepare you until you have first hand experience.

I haven't really done anything for the baby's room either.  We will be moving just a couple weeks after she arrives so we aren't even setting up the crib.  My parents and Travis' mom are planning on coming when the little one arrives so we need the baby's room for company anyways.

I am putting all other buying on hold until I have my baby shower so I can really evaluate what I need.  It is so hard though because I just want to start getting everything ready now.

I did finally find a diaper bag that I like.  Too bad it is $150.  Travis vetoed it before he even knew the price.  He asked why everything had to look like a purse.  He said he would never carry a diaper bag like that.  What was your favorite diaper bag and why?

This is my favorite one so far.  This is a runner up that Travis said he could handle. (I tried posting the picture, but it wouldn't let me.)

6 weeks is so soon! How exciting!

Joey didn't get much of a say on my diaper bag, but he hardly ever held it anyway. It was my purse/diaper bag. When he took Jackson out by himself he just put some diapers, wipes and whatever else he deemed as necessities into his backpack, which he either left in the car or put in the bottom of the stroller, depending on where he was going.

I love that you think of it as a "transfer" away :) That makes it seem so soon! As for the diaper bag...I wish I had a more purse-y diaper bag instead of a practical ugly man-can-carry-too bag. So get a pretty one!

6 weeks can also go by so slow because of the anticipation. Hearing you talk about getting all of your sub plans ready makes me feel stressed for you! It's so hard to think that far ahead especially when you don't know how long they need to work on a certain concept in math or reading, etc. I am a major planner too--I planned everything out in my plan book first for the rest of the year. Then, along with each day, I put a post-it note of things that I needed to copy or prepare before that day. I spent my whole spring break making copies, and preparing one file folder for each day of plans. I wasn't sure when Emmé would come so I did the rest of the year and it was a good thing I did because I got put on bedrest 2 weeks before my due date and she was born 1 week early. If you want more details of how I organized everything, you can call me. :)
Good luck!

I've gone through multiple diapers bags but the one we have now is from pottery barn and it's my favorite. I don't see any on their site anymore like the one we have. I love our diaper bag. It's not girly (which I'm sure you're looking for feminine ones) it's just a solid black with fabric that easily wipes off everything (poo, throw up, spilled food from treats that were packed, gum that someone left on the floor that I put my bag on, etc). It's nice because it doesn't even look like a diaper bag. I didn't want to get a huge diaper bag that looked like a diaper bag because with four kids following me around and a big fat bag that was obviously to maintain those kids doesn't look too hot. I like to think people don't even notice my black diaper bag b/c of how stealth it looks, ha! Just make sure you get a bag that is big enough to carry stuff for two kids in diapers and all their junk/stuff to entertain them when they get older. If you get a bag that's small because you think you only have one kid to carry things for, then when the next kid comes you'll just have to buy another diaper bag b/c you'll realize the first diaper bag doesn't carry anything but diapers and wipes. With a diaper bag, really you'll just have to live and learn. Travis'll settle for the pretty one right now but down the road you'll realize that whatever bag makes things easier for you to carry all of your baby junk is the one you'll love most. Im excited for you guys! Looking good Mama!
